Macro Photography enables you to see the world through a different set of eyes. You are able to take photos from as close as a few inches and acquire the kind of detail which creates stunning photos. Macro lenses are not cheap but they greatly enhance your portfolio.

It is sometimes necessary to use a tripod for macro photography, especially when using a slow shutter speed. That way you can afford a longer exposure without having to strain your body in order to keep the camera still. With a snail this is quite easy but in windy conditions, you need a faster shutter speed.

I like to take shots which show the versatility of the camera. Using a smaller aperture, you achieve a greater depth of field. That means that the foreground and the background are in focus.

You will see on these two shots how the depth of field varies according to the aperture size. Of course, with a digital camera, you can experiment with shots like this at will and not worry about the cost.
